Jamba Juice/Verizon NSSA Hawaiian Regional Championships
Kewalo Basin, March 25-30, 2006

The Jamba Juice NSSA Hawaii Tour for 2005-2006 comes to a stirring close on Oahu March 25th thru the 30th at Kewalo Basin. South swells have been quite prevalent over the past few weeks, and it appears the trend will continue and even possibly intensify as we approach the dates of competition. This years Regional Championship is being supported by all the Nssa annual sponsors as well as in title by VERIZON WIRELESS, who will have a major presence on site, that includes distribution of merchandise, displays and demonstrations in their tent at the beach as well as periodic prize drawings complements of Motorola. Verizon Wireless is also donating two phones along with $50 EZ Start phone cards to accompany each unit at the awards banquet held March 28th at the Hard Rock Café. Trophies, games, prizes, special individual awards plus scholarships as well as videos, a superb dinner experience and a great time for all is planned at the banquet as it serves as the culmination of another great year of hard driving competition and comraderie among the field of Hawaii’s top 150 young amateur surfers. The previous years official Nssa video On the Fly will also be available for sale at the beach and at the banquet.

The Verizon Wireless Regional Championships at Kewalo Basin will largely determine our Hawaii field of competitors elegible to compete in June at Nationals in San Clemente. Last year Hawaii surfers while on the mainland rode off with 10 of the 11 first place finishes in the divisions up for grabs while dominating most of the finals with at least 2 or 3 riders advancing to virtually every last round of competition. Clay Marzo and Carissa Moore took home the highly prestigious Governors Cup in the Open Men’s and Open Women’s Titles respectively, while Hawaii’s depth was most apparent in the overall finishes for each age and gender division.

Kewalo Basin plays host to many important amateur meets throughout the year and the County and DLNR was gracious enough to grant the Nssa Hawaii a five day window of opportunity to host up to three full days of wave riding. In contrast to the regular season surf meets, the Regional Championships feature two and a half times as many points for each placement, which can greatly alter or reaffirm the leaders in each division. Final standings in each division based on each surfers four best contests leading up to this contest can be found on our website.

Corporate sponsors who have supported the program throughout the season include our major sponsor for the year Jamba Juice, along with Hawaiian Built, Surfco Hawaii, Free Surf, Kemper Hawaii Trust, Pictures Plus, Honu Group, Kalani Robb, Kalos, Kagathos Foundation, Jason Nalu Bogle, and Xcel Wetsuits. This is the second consecutive year that Verizon Wireless has sponsored the NSSA Hawaii Regional Championships.
